I have six gravity air vents on my house, but only three soffit vents. I am going to have a new roof put on. My house is a split level, with three vents on the top level and three vents on the lower level. The only soffit vents are the three on the upper level on one side of the house. My question is, do I need to put three more soffit vents on the other side of the upper level and three soffit vents on either side of the lower level?

What is the ceiling area square footage on both levels?

That is where we should start.

upper level - 700 sq feet
lower level - 500 sq feet

I would put 5 vents on the roof, I would put 4 on the lower roof. The rule is 1 vent for every 150 sq ft of ceiling area.

I would also put as many soffit vents on each side of the house as there is roof vents on the roof. Making sure you have good airflow.

That means 5 soffit vents on the upper part of the roof on each side and 4 soffit vents on each side of the lower part of the house.
