This was asked on another Roofing Message board and I started to wonder......
How many shingles can you put down on an average walkable in an 8 hour day?

i figure if by yourself anywhere from 8-14 sounds like an easy day
with a helper figure 18-25 on an easy day
everytime someone asks this questions there is always "the one" who can lay 20 squares plus by himself, i let them be.
what i know sys is that one day you can do a lot but the next your burn out and do squat.

I figure ten a day per man complete. I am avoiding residential shingle work from now on unless we run out of cool stuff to do.

I do a good average of 2 square an hour. That is doing everything myself. Unlless it is really cut up.
But the finished product is perfect!!!!
well, it has to be, I use G-Tape!

I think that 2 Square an hour minimum is the going average rate. I do agree that burn out will happen if you work youself to hard. I usually don't feel this burnout unless I'm tearing off.

i do my own roofs alone and i dont see g-tape making me faster,if i have a big side to shingle i can just use my tape measure like i do with tile end of story.
G-tape will work with a two or more man crew specially if they do crooked work.and dont know how to measure .
its a good idea but its not for everybody.

never snapped a line on a shingle roof in my life. I stair step all my shingles and line them up with the key ways. most i ever did was 3 sq and hour on a church that was from bottom to top one sq. that was with a shingle humper and was 5/12.

I have seen roofs installed without lines and be straight. I personally like to stay on the side of caution lines are my friends, but if you can do it without them then you rock !!!!
All this talk about speed and lines I sure hope no one stumbles on to this spot and gets the wrong idea.

sys, who? me? stumble on here?
I understand how you guys feel, most of our customers felt the same way. And I say most because there are some that liked it right away and thought it was great. The others...."the most", didn't believe in it until they used it. Now they use it all the time. Roofers all over the country are using G-Tape, and see increased production AND quality.
I'm not going to try to talk you into using it, you can see it on the site. But you would be very suprised, and Q, you are right, if you roof all by yourself, it would be kinda hard to chalk lines. also, how many roofers can go up a tapemeasure at 5 5/8 intervals?
