Our current roof is 14 yrs old but the south side has started curling up because of the sun. The rest of the roof looks decent but we decided to get the whole roof replaced. Shortlisted to 25 years IKO organic asphalt shingles or the 30 years ELK Prestique fibreglass shingles. The weather in Ontario is very hot in summer and cold and windy in winter. Any suggestions as to Iko or Elk.

Elk is the only choice. IKO are poor grade. Make sure you have proper ventilation.

I thought so too. But is it worth it spending a few hundred dollars more if we will be staying in the house for approx 10 years more.

Well, If you can afford less than $.10 a day for a quality roof to protect your home and everything in it, I would think it is worth it.

IKO=Your going to pay more in the long run so take the least expensive route and go with ELK.

thnks guys ..... so this is unanimous decision. It has to be ELK. But I am really wondering that howcome everyone is against IKO. And inspite of it being so bad howcome the majority of the homes in Windsor have IKO roofs!!!

Elk is for sure better than Iko.
Of the three 30 year laminate Elk roofs I've installed all have been very very sandy, had to put tow boards on 6/12's!!! The one 8/12 I did with the 40 year Elk laminates were great no slipping, just like all the Landmark shingles I install, great!
