Pricing Question

I have a friend who's gotten several quotes on a new roof (tear-off). The contractor with the lowest quote added this to his contract: "add 88 dollars to the total for 40 year shingles". Somehow, that doesn't sound right to me. Also he said that contractor told him those shingles have "70 mph wind lift".

I admit I know very little about roofing, but I've been trying to research the difference between 30 and 40-year shingles and $88.00 difference for a total job doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and yet that appears to be the way the contract is written. Does this sound logical to you professionals? Would there be that much price difference per square?

BTW, the quotes he got are all from professional contractors and there's a $1500 price difference between the lowest and the highest.

Thanks for any suggestions/help you can give. I appreciate it.

30 to 40 should be about $20-$30 dollars difference per square .mmmm thats in shingle prices plus his proffit.
but i dont know his sales procedures i cant say if its right or wrong.

numbers dont add up but it could be just the way he sells.

prices dont matter it depends who is giving you the price ive heard here of someone who chrged $130 a square and today i heard of another person who sold at $1800 a square..

dont judge on the price.
my sugestion of course....
