Hello Gentelmen, I am getting married to a wonderful man who unfortunately is not legal to start his roofing business. I wan to help him and help myself at the same time. I've been told roofing is a great buisness. He is very passionate and wants to become someone and loves what he does, hes been working for someone else for 5 years. He is basically running the business for other contractors.
How do I get started or can I get started I have no expierence but I've been told I need some type of insurance. He would basically do the estimates and ordering of the material etc.. the only thing is I would need all insurance under my name etc.
Please help, where do I start

I'm a bit curious why he can't have insurance in his name but that's not really my buisness.
There are several steps you need to take in order to get legal. First thing you need is ficticious file for you buisness name. You get this from your local city hall. Next step get liscenced again City Hall. Then you go to an insurance co and get 2 different types of coverage one is liability in my area the insurance company calls it mariner insurance. Then the Workmans Comp insurance. If your husband is the only one doing work then it's not required to have workmans comp. You will need a buisness account with a local bank I recomend Bank Of America they are a very nice bank to do buisness with. Once you have these things taken care of it's just a matter of advertisement and etc.. I recomend if you plan on being a part of this with him that you answer the phones do the office work and order materials. This way your husband has more time to stay focused on Estimating and roofing. Good Luck to you both. Also recomend spending some time talking to Pride Roofing he is very intelligent when it comes to selling.

this link contained all the info on what it takes, i did the mistake of not preparing before i started,i had all the trade knowledge, but i had a tuff first year because i lack finance, bookeping and sales experience.
most contractors i talk to they told me they were hurting like me or more the first year, you make a little and you spend a lot.
i strongly suggest reviewing the sba info i read it and its very accurate.

What state are you in because that makes a difference as states such as florida and california you need to be licensed or you go to jail.
