I was not aware that trusses had to be made by registered professionals in my state. I made it myself and already put them on and even finished shingles.

Is there any other option besides demolishing the roofing? what a mistake I made!

SOS!

To be totally legal, I would say you would have to demo and rebuild. The best thing to do would be call the building dept. and tell them your situation and ask VERY, VERY nicely if there is ANYTHING you can do short of a complete demo. Even if you had to demo down to the trusses you built so they can be inspected would be better than a 100% demo. Better yet would be, if they are still accessable/viewable from the attic space. You're going to need a very understanding and reasonable inspector, good building practices, maybe a print/plan of the trusses you built if it's possible, and a lotta luck (as to finding all these things, especially the understanding inspector). In most areas, the AHJ has the power to pass anything he chooses but if something is unsafe, any inspector that likes his job, wouldn't do that. I wish you luck.

Jp is correct i would talk to the inspector and see what he or she sez.

Thanks a lot for suggestion. According to the code, I need to get trusses plan approved by the county. Code also says that trusses cannot be built by residents. What I don't know is, in my case, because the roofing is already finished, what county will do?

Will they ask me to get an independent agency for quality control? or they will say I have to demolish the roofing?

sigh..

Well i have seen things get torn down that are brand new due to improper installs before. Anything is possible. The codes are in place to make sure safety is number one.

Why not just stick frame it?

I see. Here's my key question:

Can mending plate be put into truss mannually? or it has to be done by machine?

I appreciate the help very much,

Generally they are pressed in but i think they have them that can be put in manually but im not sure only used pre made jobs.

"...but i think they have them that can be put in manually but im not sure only used pre made jobs."

sorry, I don't quite undertand here. Would you mind rephrasing it?

thanks so much!

They sell them at home depot but im a roofer not a rough carpenter. Sounds like something is wrong and you did not follow the state or local code. My question why are you trying to micky mouse your own home?

That's where I got mending plates.

I am not familiar with state code and thought I could do it myself. IT's a mistake.
