Hello,
I have started searching for a roofer. I had a new roof installed couple of years ago. The material used was GAF. However, we are moving to another house, which will need new roof. I just got a quote from the first roofer. He uses only Elk products. Is there a difference between these two products? Is he right saying that Elk is better and stronger than GAF? Thank you for your responses in advance.

its a matter of taste i use mostly GAF shingles but i havent heard of a roofer who would "only install one kind" some guys like more ceirtanteed due to the wind warranty, what you want to mainly focus on is the warranty.
you are the one buying and he should give you multiple choices, if you are happy with your previous installation of GAF, then why change?

I have used Elk (Capstone 40 yr, and some Elk that was granulated on both sides, the name escapes me, but it was an awesome product)and GAF (30-40 yr Timberline, and the lifetime warranty Grand Sequoia) shingles on numorous occasions. I remember enjoying the Elk better, maybe it was the installation of 80 square of Grand Sequoia in the middle of winter.
