Corning Wear VS Elk?

Hi, my contractor recently gave me the choice of going with Owens Corning or Elk. Both are 40 yr shingles. He (the contractor) suggested that Elk may be a better product, and that it could have a better warranty, but he didn’t elaborate or sound so convincing. I live in Florida across the street from the ocean, and we’ve already been hit twice by hurricanes. Any advice would be appreciated.
I also heard someone mention that I should go with these Hi Performance shingles, but I don’t know if that is an option, as he only offered the OC and Elk.
Thank you.

Personally i would not use either of those on my home or any customers homes. I perfer Certainteed shingles mostly because the warranty is very clear and they are the only manufacturer that will still give a warranty if you dont ventilate it correctly, but i dont have that problem. Also they up the warranty free for 6 nail high wind applications. I would personally suggest any shingle with a 110 mph warranty on it due to the weather problems you have down there. With ELk i have had problems with getting ahold of the reps, also that warranty he is talking about you buy so does not matter. OC is a product i have seen fail far before warranty period ends. Also with them stocking home improvement centers i fell it is not a truely professional product. Further more they are lighter and thinner than Certainteed or GAF. I just stay with who only makes shingles for over 100 years. Hope that helps you out a bit.
